3John 1:4

I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

John 14:6

I (Jesus speaking) am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by Me.

Lo, children are a heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is His reward.

What Difference does your belief in God make in your life?

Recently I was talking with someone about his Christian Faith.  He knew all the language; he admitted that Jesus came to earth, died a cruel death on the cross and rose from the dead.  When I asked him what difference did his beliefs make in his life he was silent.  He couldn't think of anything.

I started pondering this dilema and wondered if this person was any different from an atheist or an evolutionist?  Neither one believes in the God of the Bible, therefore God isn't even part of their thought processes or worldwiew.  By worldview I mean the set of presuppositions and beliefs that people use to interpret the world in which we live.

Let us discuss this for  moment.  For example, an evolutionist believes we came from pond scum and evolved from simple to more complex organisms.  Humans are just a highly evolved animal.  Humans live and die and that is the end of it.  Atheists believe there is no God, that we live, die, and that is the end of it.  So, you see, God isn't in the picture.  God has no place or little influence on these individuals.

Let's go back to the guy I was chatting with that said he believed in God.  God  had little influence in his life.  He said he believed in God, but his beliefs didn't make any difference in his life.  He set the standards for his life.  He determined what was good and bad.  Is this any different from the evolutionist or atheist?

Could we put them all in the same group; the so-called Christian, the evolutionist, and the atheist?  They all may borrow certain aspects from the Christian Worldview which would make them inconsistent and thus irrational.

If this was true, what is their Worldview?  We live, die, and it is over?  I'm afraid it is not that easy.  Many evolutionist will say you need to live your life in such a way that you benefit and help others.  My question is why?  Why should I live my life that way if I'm just the result of rearranged pond scum?  It is a rough world; the survival of the fittest is what matters most.  If people get in way I can run over them!

The atheist may say we need to do "good" to others and make this world a better place.  What is "good"?  Who defines "good".  Some people think it is "good" to kill unwanted, unborn children.  Is their standard of "good" going to be the moral standard for everyone?  Some people think elderly people should be left to starve to death and die if they can't take care of themselves.  How can we know what is "good"?

The so-called Christian says we should "do unto others as we would have them do unto us".  That sounds very familiar.  I wonder where that came from?  Some people think it is okay to cheat on their taxes.  Is it okay for me to cheat them out of some money, too?

As you can see, this can get very complicated.  We end up with quite a variety of standards.  Could it be possible that there is a true God that has shown us how to live and enables us to live that way?
